Retrieval-Augmented Generation retrieves relevant material at query time and supplies it as context for generation. It adds evidence to a model that still uses knowledge and behavior learned during training.
It can help with private or changing documents and source citations. Retrieval does not guarantee the evidence is correct, authorized, complete, or used faithfully. Evaluate retrieval and answer grounding separately, and allow an insufficient-evidence response.
